The bride and her family seek blessings from Goddess Gauri, the consort of Lord Shiva.
The priest performs rituals to seek blessings of Lord Ganesha before starting the auspicious event.
The auspicious wedding time begins.
A veil is placed between the bride and groom. The following rituals will happen without the bride and groom seeing each other, until the very end.
The bride is carried in a basket (pelli butta) by her maternal uncles to mandapam. The parents of the bride symbolically give the custody of their daughter to the groom, and the groom promises to be a lifelong companion to their daughter.
The bride and groom place a cumin and jaggery paste along with a betel leaf on each other's heads, declaring their union to the world. The terasala is lifted.
The groom ties the Mangalasutra, an auspicious thread colored with turmeric, around the bride's neck. Three knots are made, each symbolizing the mental, physical, and spiritual bond between the couple.

The bride and groom take seven steps together promising their allegiance to each other during the lows and highs of their lives.
The newlyweds shower rice mixed with turmeric on each other. The ritual transitions into a fun game of who gets to shower the most rice.
As the last ritual of the wedding, the priest helps the couple find the stars Arundhati (Alcor) and Vashishta (Mizar). Arundhati and Vashishta are considered the ideal couple, and the couple seeks the blessings of the stars.
The bride brings a pan of milk to a boil to symbolize her joining into the groom's family.
